Modern Soundworks is an independent audio engineering and software studio founded by Rich Rossi. Rich's journey began as a teenager playing in bands and cultivating an obsession with recording and web development focused on promoting independent artists and record labels. After graduating from college with an audio engineering degree, he spent decades inside the independent music ecosystem—working in distribution, marketing, A&R, project management, and business operations.
Having recorded, mixed, and mastered records since 2000, Rich today operates from his studio in Waltham, Massachusetts (just outside Boston), focusing exclusively on dedicated mastering services. His sonic philosophy is grounded in a disciplined "less is more" ethos—delivering uncompromising transparency, punchy dynamics, and clean translation tailored for Rock, Alternative, Metal, Hardcore, and Punk.
The software arm of Modern Soundworks was born out of direct workflow necessity: building tools Rich wanted to use himself that solve real studio headaches. TrackVision was created because traditional video editors were never designed to batch-create audio visualizers, allowing engineers and labels to generate release-ready YouTube videos for entire album tracklists all at once. DDP Studio was built to fill a major void for a native macOS CD authoring and auditioning tool at a time when physical CD sales are experiencing a powerful resurgence.
